Description
Leopold Levitskyi (1906–1973). He was born in the village of Burdyakivtsi (Austria-Hungary, now Ternopil region). In 1925 he entered the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, from which he was expelled in 1932 for exhibiting revolutionary graphics. Initiator and active member of the progressive art organization “Krakow Group” (1932-1937). In 1944 he settled in Lviv. He worked in the fields of graphics, painting, sculpture. He illustrated the works of Ivan Franko, I. Olbrecht and others. He has participated in numerous exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad. Honored Artist of the USSR (1970). The first solo exhibition took place after the artist’s death (1974). L. Levitsky Art Memorial Museums were opened in Lviv (1984) and the village of Burdyakivtsi (1996). The works are stored in the National Art Museum of Ukraine, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Ukraine, the National Museum in Lviv. A. Sheptytsky and other museum and private collections in Ukraine and abroad.
